Huawei P50 and P50 Pro Buyer’s Guide: Everything You Need to Know

The company has fallen out of favor in the smartphone industry due to Huawei’s ban. After a short break into the top positions of global manufacturers in 2020, the company has fallen too low in the list and is no longer even in the top 5. However, Huawei has not stopped. launched a phone, and the Huawei P50 series is the company’s latest product line.

Below you’ll find all you need to know about the P50 and P50 Pro. Be sure to bookmark this page, as we’ll add more information when the phone finally launches in China.

Huawei P50 series at a glance

It has launched two major versions of the phone – a Vanilla model and a Pro model – and a special edition version. This is the basic information you need in each case.

Huawei P50

It only comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, although Huawei has attached that CPU to only support 4G networks. It has a lower rear camera lens than the Pro model, has a smaller battery, has no wireless charging, and is limited to a 90Hz refresh rate.

However, do not think that it is not strong. Its 50MP main camera sensor is a solid piece of hardware and comes with at least 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It also has a 66W wired charger, which can charge a 4,100mAh battery from empty to full in about 30-40 minutes.

The P50 starts at 4,488 Yuan ($695) and costs 4,988 Yuan ($772) for the model with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.

P50 Pro

The Huawei P50 Pro is the company’s original 2021 Powerhouse flagship. It comes in two versions: one with Snapdragon 888 locked to 4G and one with Kirin 9000 supporting 5G. The Kirin 9000 is weaker than the Snapdragon 888, but some people may prefer it because of its 5G capabilities.

As usual, the standout feature of the new P-Series Pro is the camera. It is supported by a quad-lens system with a 50MP head, a 13MP UV, a 64MP telephoto lens, and a 40MP monochrome sensor. Huawei is counting the color accuracy of this system as one of its big selling points.

Overall, the P50 Pro is a better phone in every way than the vanilla P50. Of course, this is more expensive.

Huawei P50 Pro Special Edition

A few years ago, Huawei launched a “Pro Plus” variant of its flagships. However, this year, the P50 Pro is the highest-end phone model for the average consumer. However, the company is launching a special edition model of the huawei p50 pro. It comes with Kirin 9000, 12GB RAM, and 512GB internal storage. However, it’s still unclear what sets it apart from the top-end P50 Pro.

The Special Edition is definitely more expensive than the flagship P50 Pro. The Special Edition model is priced at 8,488 Chinese Yuan (~1,314 Yuan), which is significantly higher than the Speck equivalent P50 Pro (7,988 Chinese Yuan). We’ll have to wait and see what makes this special edition so unique

Huawei P50 pocket

And now something completely different. Huawei’s P50 bag is a P50 that has two circular notches on the back but only serves as a camera unit. The other screen is a small screen that allows you to stay up to date with notifications and the like since the P50 bag is a foldable clamshell.

That’s right, instead of adding new specs, Huawei has turned its latest flagship into a powerful folding option to compete with the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Finally, the P50 is expected to pay €1,299 ($1,468) for the bag, when the P50 comes out.

Phone software and updates

Without access to Google services, Huawei was forced to build its own operating system. It landed as the Harmony operating system. In China, the software you have pre-installed on the Huawei P50 series is Harmony OS 2.0. The rest of the world will get EMUI 12, based on Android 11.

Huawei says most of its modern devices will eventually get Harmony OS. The company promises continuous software updates for both Harmony OS and EMUI devices. There’s not much history here to back up Huawei’s claims. For now, though, it’s important to understand that the P50 series won’t look like any other Android phone you’d use if you lived outside of China.
