FA confirmed to Vn88 that Cristiano Ronaldo violated the agency’s law after breaking a fan’s phone in April this year.
The English Football Association (FA) announced on Twitter yesterday afternoon (September 23): “Cristiano Ronaldo has been charged with breaching FA Rule E3 for an incident that took place after a Premier League match between Man Utd and Manchester United. against Everton on Saturday 9 April 2022. The Man Utd striker has been charged with misconduct or violence after the game ended.”
Vn88 quoted Man Utd as quickly receiving the information given by the FA and affirming that it will take actions to support the team’s star. “We take note of the FA’s announcement regarding Ronaldo. We will support the player against these accusations,” Man Utd’s homepage wrote.
The incident happened after the match between Everton and Man Utd on April 9, 2022. Ronaldo played the full 90 minutes, but his team failed with a score of 0-1. It was the 5th loss in 8 defeats at the end of last season of the “Red Devils”.
Ronaldo smashed Jacob Harding’s phone on the floor when the autistic teenager held out his phone to ask for a souvenir photo on the way the Portuguese star entered the dressing room. Soon after, Ronaldo apologized and invited the 14-year-old boy to watch Man Utd’s match at Old Trafford but was refused.
Ronaldo said: “It is never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments like we are facing. I would like to apologize for my outbursts and if possible I would like to invite this supporter to come. see a game at Old Trafford as sportsmanship and fair-play.”
Ronaldo’s actions according to Vn88 were not pursued by the British police. “We can confirm that a 37-year-old man has voluntarily presented himself and is carefully questioned in connection with an allegation of assault and property damage,” a statement from Merseyside Police read of the case. “The allegation relates to an incident following the Everton game against Man Utd at Goodison Park on Saturday 9 April. The matter has been handled in a conditional prudent manner, the case has now been concluded.”
Ronaldo is not currently in the UK, he is with the Portuguese team preparing for the UEFA Nations League matches against the Czech Republic today (Saturday) and Spain next Tuesday.
